Everything You Need to Know About the Samsung Galaxy S10

November 20, 2018

The Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus were more of the same from the South Korean company, leading to meager sales for this generation of smartphone. Samsung has a lot riding on the Galaxy S10 to set itself apart from the iPhone XR, but if rumors are to be believed, this generation is going to be beastly.

Samsung is also celebrating their 10th anniversary of the Galaxy series with the S10, so fans should look forward to Samsung's plans for this device.

Right now we know Samsung will launch at least three different models of the Samsung Galaxy S10, thanks to a leak from their certification with a Chinese bureau. Samsung has been releasing multiple models for years, with the S, S Plus, and S Active lines. However, rumors suggest a fourth phone that will trump the current three models that have surfaced so far.

Right now the entry-level Galaxy S10 will feature the model number SM-G970x. Two premium options will feature model numbers SM-G973x and SM-G975x. A new report suggests a fourth model will offer support for 5G and will feature a total of six cameras on the device.

SM-G970x and SM-G973x Galaxy S10 devices will feature a 5.8-inch display, while the SM-G975x Galaxy S10 model will feature a 6.4-inch display. The newly rumored device is said to have a 6.7-inch screen, making it the largest of the three known variants.

All four devices will feature an AMOLED screen with an in-screen fingerprint reader. The Galaxy S10 will feature a notch, but it appears to be a pinhole with just the camera peeking through rather than the ugly notches we've seen on previous devices. One downside to the rumors is that Samsung is finally ready to drop the headphone jack this year, leaving the old tech behind.

Rumors suggest this Galaxy S10 variant will be the most expensive S10 model that Samsung uses to drive its marketing for the new device. If the rumors prove to be true, this would be Samsung's first device with a dual camera set up in front and a quad camera set up on the rear.

The rumor suggests the fourth Galaxy S10 variant is codenamed "Beyond X" and is expected to launch next spring. Sources say that Samsung is considering adding reverse wireless charging to the Galaxy S10. This feature would allow the phone to charge connected devices like earbuds with its own battery.

Reverse wireless charging is already available on the Huawei Mate P20 Pro, which is now available for purchase in China and headed to the United States soon. The Huawei Mate P20 Pro also features a quad rear camera setup, so Samsung is playing catch-up with Chinese manufacturers with the Galaxy S10.

The Galaxy S10 is rumored to be available in black, white, yellow, and green, with more gradients coming down the line. The hint that gradients are in store for the S10 suggests Samsung may be taking another page out of Huawei's playbook. The Huawei Mate P20 Pro featured an amazing purple to blue gradient that may be setting off a new trend in smartphones.
